“All gave some - some gave all.” The Lenoir County Teenage Republicans (TARS) were honored to meet a few of our veterans who “gave some” on Saturday, March 31. Members of the TARS group assembled at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston to make a donation to the residents of the home. The group decided in January to participate in a community service project and, immediately, decided that the veterans would be at the top of their list. The “Love our Veterans” donation drive took place during the month of February, with drop boxes setup at various grocery locations in the county. Citizens were asked to donate specific snacks and beverages, as requested by the Veterans Home.

Mr. Glenn Batten, former Deputy Director of the North Carolina Division of Veteran Affairs, greeted the group and spent some time explaining the meaning of the Vietnam chair on temporary display in the home’s lobby. Members of the TARS group then had the opportunity to tour the NC State Veterans home, after presenting their donation to the projects coordinator. The group held their monthly meeting at the facility and were honored to have a few of the veterans join them. Other guests in attendance were Senator Louis Pate, Mr. Chris Humphrey, Mrs. Jennifer Dacey (representing Mr. Scott Dacey), and Mrs. Dawn Stroud, all of whom are Republican candidates in the upcoming election. Ethan Cahoon, Chairman of the TARS group, stated he was very pleased with this donation drive and he looks forward to participating in more events like this that will benefit the community.

The Lenoir County Teenage Republican group meets monthly and is currently seeking serious members from Lenoir County, ages 13-19, who identify with the Republican Party. Contact Ethan Cahoon at 252-933-5490 or John Nix at 252-560-2150 for more information.
