Thelma Christine Magures Phillips passed away peacefully Feb. 3, 2009, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Phillips was born on Feb. 25, 1934, to William Franklin Magures and Daisy Lee Claxton Magures in Kemp, Texas. Mrs. Phillips was involved in many community activities, including the Gulf Area Garden Club, Choctawhatchee Audubon Society, Fort Walton Beach Woman’s Club, Stage Crafters Community Theatre, Playground Gem and Mineral Society, and Extension Homemakers. She also taught classes in bird watching and genealogy through the Center for Lifelong Learning at the University of West Florida and also volunteered at the Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Glenn Phillips of Shalimar, Fla.; children, Donna Haugh and husband Thomas of Valparaiso, Fla., Sharon Phillips of Shalimar, John Phillips and wife Tina of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Mark Phillips and wife Shaun of Madison, Ala.; grandchildren, JeNee, Joshua, Christopher, Kevin, Michael, Patrick, Katherine and William; brothers, Dwayne Magures of Kemp, Texas, and Billy Frank Magures and wife Marietta of Roseville, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at the same location on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Phillips’ name to the Choctawhatchee Audubon Society; Niceville First United Methodist Church Children’s Building Fund; or the charity of your choice.
